Reading Modern Written Arabic

Though there is considerable diversity of dialects in spoken Arabic, the written language is fairly standard with the differences falling into historical periods rather than geographical areas. The emphasis in this course is on reading modern printed Arabic. However, before attempting this course, it is necessary to know the Arabic writing system and have a reasonably accurate pronunciation.
